Following the advocacy of residents on Palm Avenue and nearby streets, and with the help of Councillor Sharon Stewart and Pakuranga MP Simeon Brown, Auckland Transport has made the decision to reinstall the “Keep Clear” markings at the intersection of Palm Ave and Ti Rakau Drive.
“This decision is a huge win for the residents of these streets, who have known for a long time just how dangerous this intersection is,” say Mr Brown and Mrs Stewart.
“Ever since the original markings were removed they have had to witness serious accidents and many more near misses, hoping it wouldn’t take a fatal incident for something to be done.”
“As a result of their efforts, AT have agreed that the markings need to be reinstalled and are planning to complete this work within the next month. In addition, they will also install an advance warning sign and a high friction surface on the kerbside lane, which reduces skidding by up to 53% compared to standard asphalt.”
“This will greatly improve safety at the intersection and will undoubtedly mean fewer accidents and opportunities for accidents.”
“AT should be commended on this decision, and they have stated they will monitor the site following the safety improvements to ensure they are working as intended.”
