Stop the three speed bumps on Ti Rakau Drive - sign the petition!

As part of the next stage of the Eastern Busway – the Pakuranga to Botany stage – Auckland Transport (AT) have included in recent designs the installation of three speed bumps. These would be located at the three bus stations being built along this route: near the Ti Rakau Drive/Reeves Road intersection, the Ti Rakau Drive/Edgewater Drive intersection, and the Ti Rakau Drive/Gossamer Road intersection.

The speed bumps would be located near the bus station locations, circled in red above.

These speed bumps, like the one that was proposed for Pakuranga Road before community opposition forced its cancellation, are totally unnecessary. Each of these bus stations will be located right next to intersections that already include adequate traffic management and pedestrian crossings, and adding speed bumps will provide no benefit while having a detrimental effect on non-Busway traffic. This is sadly yet another example of AT’s quest (at the behest of the Labour government) to slow down the more than 80% of people who use private vehicles to get around, in favour of the small minority who use public transport.

The Eastern Busway project includes improvements for everyday motorists, with more efficient access to the South Eastern Highway at the Ti Rakau Drive/Reeves Road intersection, which will help ease congestion across Pakuranga and Botany. Installing speed bumps along the Busway route completely negates any improvements the majority of commuters would have enjoyed, and will only serve to slow us down even further.

Please sign this petition to send AT a clear message: stop trying to install speed bumps along our major transport arterials and stop trying to slow Auckland down.
